Really, really fun. I'm not usually one for turn-based games, but I genuinely enjoyed the story and the combat was manageable. No tedium without the random encounters, and I love the modern setting and how it's been translated into RPG format. Can't wait for the last chapter!

Thank you so much! We can't wait to release the full story ♥!

(+3)

Dude seriously I want to watch this as an anime hahaha!!!

(+1)

I've played through to the start of Day 4 today intending to play more than one game today, but instead I just got so sucked into this one! I really enjoy the art style and animations, and the colors are great.

The combat works pretty well. I've found I'm able to carry my team through on mainly morale and skills rather than using very many non-healing items, which is pretty good because I ended up giving a lot of those away.

The (non-sniping) combat system itself reminds me very much of VATS from Fallout New Vegas mixed with Pokemon. It feels kind of weird to shoot someone (who isn't wearing a helmet!!) in the head with a gun - or really, anywhere with a gun - and not kill them or knock them out. The idea that you can evade a bullet also feels unusual to me conceptually. Neither of these things are unique in games though, so I can't really say it detracts. Maybe it's just that it gets highlighted by the combination of weaponry and the mechanics of how you use them in the game? It's unusual (or at least new-to-me) and caught me by surprise, but I have to say that it does work.

The game requires a decent amount of strategy and actually seems fairly well balanced in the sense that you can't just select random stuff and expect to get through fights by the early middle of the game. As well, NPCs with the same roles and/or art seem to fight with different strategies in different battles, which makes it feel varied.

I also feel really attached to my whole team by now, and the level design is SUPER SUPER GOOD. This must have taken so much work. I'm really impressed.

I got this game as part of the Racial Justice bundle.

Can we get a GoFundMe so this can aswell be an actual anime.

(+2)

Thank yooou, we can't wait to finish it either!

I've been eyeing this game for so long and as soon as I saw it in the bundle I knew I had to buy immediately. I'm a sucker for military-sci-fi stories, so the worldbuilding of the Core especially was so intriguing and drew me in from the beginning! Though, I wish we could've see a bit more and have it developed a bit further.

The cast of characters are so complex and lovable and to see them bond and work together was so sweet. I appreciate that it really focuses on their platonic relationships! The dilemmas and problems Rourke had to work through to to learn about the surface and become his own person was well done; it felt like I was a part of their world and along for the ride.

The art is so visually appealing and detailed. The busts, animated CGs, and pixel sprites were so expressive I sometimes just found myself admiring the art more during the fights than actually attacking :').

Overall, a wonderful and beautiful experience. I'm looking forward to the finale!

(+1)

Thank you so much! I'm glad to read you enjoyed the story and its characters ♥ We'll be revealing more about The Core in the last chapter, we'll try our best to answer most questions about it within the game.

(+2)

RPG with a highly intriguing story about the dark side of military life. The mechanics also revolve more about military aspects and it actually is beautifully made and one of the most interesting Indie RPGs I've seen in a while. The combat has a themed touch, but is relatively straight forward, but its interesting how much more they built around that theme. Really interesting take, will need to check the story out once the game is finished to see where this goes. (Apparently they are working to release the final chapter soon) 4/5

Thank you so much for your review! And yup, we can confirm we're working on the last chapter and preparing for our full release, though we haven't announced a date yet.

I've kind of sung my praises for this game in the discord already but I've wanted to make this just a bit more public ig. I knew the moment I saw the page for this game that I was going to love it, I didn't expect it to become one of my favourite games of all time though. I booted it up and instantly messaged my friends on how beautiful it was and played. I fell in love with the story and the characters, latching onto Adair and expecting it to be like it's easy to tell this is my favourite. As I kept playing, I found myself exploring every nook and cranny and falling in love with every single character, even the villains! I'm having my friends who also bought the bundle to play this game as soon as they can and getting friends to buy it if they can later. It's a game that has nestled it's way into my heart on so many different factors that I can't even begin to explain. Every single character is beautifully created and the story and world is so immersive I found myself finishing all there was to offer in a little under 24 hours of taking breaks between sessions. It was a game I wanted to play whenever I had free time and even though I'm done with the chapters there are so far, I still find myself restarting for the sake of going through the entire game again. I know the full game will be amazing and excitedly await for it :3

Wow, thank you so much! I'm glad you have enjoyed it so much, it really means a lot to us! Also, huge thanks for telling your friends about it ♥

I honestly don't know what to say, I'm just really happy to read this, thanks for taking the time to write such kind words!

(1 edit) (+1)

This game is honestly amazing!! The political drama, the lovable and relatable characters, everything! There is so much detail put into every part of this game, the npc dialogue builds so much of the world, the animation of the characters when they speak, the way you went above and beyond with the CG whenever something important happens, the animation and music choices which added so much to the tension in battles,  the emotional complexity of the characters, the language barriers, the quests which make you feel like you love the people in the world just like Rourke does, the soundtrack, EVERYTHING. This game is truly, truly on my favorites list besides games like Persona 3 and Undertale. I absolutely cannot wait for the rest of the game to come out, but I don't want it to end! I wish I could ask you about all the influences you had when you made this game, I would absolutely love to ask! I really really don't want this game to end, I want to see more of Rourke and Adair for at least 30 more hours! I will definitely support you financially and in your games in the future, I recommended this game to all of my friends because I absolutely loved it!!!!! Me he hecho un fan grandisimo tuyo!! : DDD

(1 edit)

Thank you so much, this comment really made my day, especially that part about the sidequests ♥

Regarding influences, I don't think I could name just one, and there are other games that may have influenced me without me realizing it, but the games that inspired me the most to work on an RPG were Square's and ATLUS games. Another game that inspired me a lot was "Papers, Please", because back then I thought people wouldn't be interested in playing a game with simple graphics and loads of social criticism, and I'm glad I was wrong. Undertale also inspired me in a way because I wasn't sure if people were still interested in playing RPGs with minimalistic pixel art unless they were free, and once again, my predictions were wrong, oops.

Me he hecho fan de tu videojuego :D.

Amazing, amazing, amazing! This game is such a pleasure to play, and the art just looks otherworldly, and all the characters are so compelling and lovable. Such a high tier A++ game...it really deserves more love! But let me tell you, it's been kinda wild being a Pole and playing this.

SPOILERS AHEAD. . .

Me at the beginning of the game: oooh, Poland...oh damn. fuck, what kinda stupid shit are we doing this time.

Me at the end of chapter 2: Oh, it's just everyone fucking us over. Got it.

(+1)

We're really glad to hear you enjoyed the game and its characters! Personally, I wouldn't dare use Poland as an enemy, so it should be safe in that regard.

(+1)

Oooh boy, this is so great. The story is very interesting, I'm waiting to see how this ends. Only one thing, maybe I would have used another battle theme

(+2)

Got it in the bundle and it catched my eye because of the nice pixelart and that it's an RPG. Been enjoying it alot, great game!

(+2)

Thank you so much, I'm glad to read that!

(+1)

I've played the game a bit further and found a small kind of bug. When I killed Lt. Gareth he died from bleeding, after that I killed a remaining medic but Gareth was still there but invisible and only died if I shot him again. This isn't gamebreaking or anything but though I should let you know.

(+2)

Thanks for reporting it! That's a known bug (it happens when the medics are still alive so they accidentally heal the lieutenant even though he's supposed to be unconscious). We're working on a fix, and it should be included in our next update.

(+4)

I got this in the bundle and picked it out mostly at random to play. I finished it the same day, and loved every second of it. I can't wait for the final chapter, thank you so much for the game!

(+2)

Thank you so much! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it!

(+3)

I'd seen this game around before, but never had the opportunity to pick it up until I saw it pop up again in the bundle!! Despite not knowing too much about it when I first saw it, the artstyle & the pixel sprites really drew me in!I think this game is really pretty to look at & I've really enjoyed seeing all the new places. As well as that, I like the characters a lot & I'm invested in the story to see where it goes!! I really like Adair haha & I'm really excited for the final chapter!!

My only criticism is I think it would be nice an option to make dialogue load faster, or to be able to press a button to have the full sentence out would be nice! I read really fast & I find myself waiting at the end longer dialogues, or when I accidentally click on a person three times in a row instead of opening up the menu. Using V to speed up dialogue is useful, but then I end up holding too long & skipping to the next dialogue bubble. Overall that's a pretty minor thing though!!

Anyway eagerly looking forwards to the final update!! Really glad I got the opportunity to play this through the bundle :)

(+2)

Thanks for playing it and for your kind words! Adair seems to be really popular, which makes me glad because I thought people would think he's a jerk at first, haha.

I totally agree about having a way to make dialogues appear faster. We have a faster one for our own tests, but sometimes it bugs a little, so that's why we haven't made that available for players yet. We'll look into, I think having the whole sentence appear at once by pressing a button would be a good option!

(+3)

I just finished the current game. I must say that I absolutely love the story and the art style! However, I kinda wish The Core was developed a bit more at the start of the game. Also, about the dialogue and conversations in game – I kinda wish that some of the dialogue could be sped up/skippable because I found myself continuously pressing on X and accidentally choosing the wrong option when it came to making choices T^T I also feels like there should an easier way to compare stats between equipment? Something like a little stats info bar on the side when you go over equipment would be nice.

Nevertheless, the game looks great right now and I can't wait for the final release! I love all the characters introduced and how you can interact with the animals in-game. Thank you for the wonderful experience so far!! :D

(+2)

Thank you so much for your feedback, and I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it! You can advance through dialogue faster by keeping V pressed down, but we'll still look for a way to make it even faster because it's no fun if you have to see the same dialogue for a second time.

Regarding The Core, it's intentionally vague but there's a lot more info about it as the game progresses, especially in the final chapter!

(+2)

just finished the current game so far. i love it, the writing and the characters are really well done. so excited for the full game, i know you put a lot of work into the game

(+1)

Thank you so much, I'm really happy to read that ♥!

Recently purchased BLM game bundle.  Played Long Gone Days.   Enjoyed it.  Decent character development, tried to teach morals, mixture of battle scenes and fetch it quests.  Thanks.

(+1)

Hey, I got a little question. Since this is one of my first purchases on Itch.io: If I got the game because of the Justice-Bundle, did I still get the full version? I think I binged the game since yesterday and just couldn't stop playing! The Cliffhanger at the end of Chapter 3 is feeling like torture! XD

(Sorry, English isn't my first language, but I hope I got my Point across to you :) )

(+3)

Hi there! Everyone who got the game from the bundle will have access to the full game and every upcoming update.

We are working on the last chapter right now so we hope the wait isn't thaaaaat long 🙌!

(+4)

just finished all of what's currently available and god, this game is phenomenal. i love every character & feel for their experiences. the gameplay is fun, the quests are engaging, the story is well-written--i'm so, so impressed. thank you so much for making such a wonderful game!! i'm desperately excited for the final chapter. :)

(+1)

Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to write such a nice comment 💖! We can't wait to release the full game!

(+3)

just finished the first chapter & i've gotta say, this has to be one of the best plays i've had in awhile! its story and wordbuilding is so immersive, the art style is gorgeous, and it's just.. wow, everything about this game is great! how phenomenal-- i love all the characters, too! great work!

(+1)

Thank yoooooou, we're really glad to hear you enjoyed it so much 🙌!

(+7)

It feels weird to go through a library of thousands of games i, somehow, "own" now

But this one caught my attention immediatly., wich is already saying something, I'm in, i hope i enjoy it.

(+4)

I say the same, before purchasing the bundle i checked what i would get, i saw this one and it was an instant buy.

(+3)

I actually wanted to buy Long Gone Days loooong before lol, saw it in the bundle and went "Okay, I gotta buy the bundle now"

(+2)

This is a fantastic game! It's tense and interesting,  the little pixel sprites are adorable and the art is beautiful. I'm beyond excited for the last chapter!

Thank you so much, it's nice to read that ♥!

I'm getting this error on my Mac, any suggestions?

(+1)

Hi there! Are you by any chance a MacOS Catalina user? We posted a fix here: https://laburatory.itch.io/lgd/devlog/153218/for-macos-catalina-users (it should also work for any other games you are having trouble running!)

(+2)

Thank you so much, I'll try this fix right away!

(1 edit) (+3)

I love this game - both the story and the art style are beautiful, and I love Rourke and Adair being kinda clueless about the outside world.

(+3)

Aww, thank you! I'm really glad to hear you liked the art and the characters and I swear one day I'll finally write a dating-sim, haha.

(+5)

I LOVE THE ART STYLE!! Look so clean and beautiful!!

Thank you, I'm glad you like it!

Hola, Camila.

Saludos!

Is it possible to rebind the controls to something like WASD for movement and IJKL for actions? If not, will it be in the full game?

Unfortunately there's currently no native way to rebind the keys, but it's something we have considered! We haven't tested external key rebinders so I can't recommend that. As an alternative, though I know this isn't a real solution, you can also play using Xbox or PS4 controllers, or you can play using the arrow keys instead of WASD. I hope that helps a bit!

(+1)

Thank you for the reply.

(+3)

Love the game a lot! Thanks for the good work!

(+1)

Thank yoooou!

(+5)

love the game so far especially the artwork Can't wait for a full finish game of this one,Keep up the good work guys!

(+2)

Thank you so much!

(+3)

I love this game so far. Great job! I was introduced to this game through the bundle so I hope the team that made this game really gets their dues!

We're glad you are enjoying the game, and thank you so much for your kind words! The fact that so many people are donating to the bundle is rewarding enough for us ♥

Hi!

As i looked up the game over on Steam it seems there was an update for Long Gone Days on May 2020. But here the itchi.io version to download it says "Sep 22, 2019". So my question is: Is the itchi.io Version up-to date? And if not how long will it take to get the itchi.io version up-to-date? As i read in the comments you don't get a Steam-key anymore if you buy the game here, so the only version i can play is the one i bought here. Thanks for the answer and all the hard work!

(+7)

Hi there! The latest version available is version 0.6.4, which is the one currently available here and on Steam. That update we posted some weeks ago on Steam is a progress report, not a content update. We apologize for the confusion.

In any case, any new content updates will be released simultaneously across all platforms!

(+1)

Thanks for the answer, that help!

(+1)

When's full release?

(+15)

We haven't announced it yet, but we are working on the very last chapter of the game at the moment.

(+1)

Do I need a steam key to play this or was that instruction for purchasers from steam? Was a little confused there.

(+3)

Hi there! Yes, those instructions are generic, but you don't need a Steam Key to play it. If you got the game through the Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality, you can access the DRM-free version of the game. Unfortunately, Steam Keys were removed to avoid key resellers :(

(+1)

Understandable! Will the game have achievements to unlock? (Had to ask since I wonder if those are exclusively for steam other than the key itself)

(+1)

We plan to add achievements in the future, but I think these will be exclusive to Steam, unless there's a similar feature on itchio.

(+2)

Oh no, you're gonna make a completionist out of me XD Thank you for your quick response!

(+3)

Hello, I love this game and, as a fan, I always make shipps also. There's any possibility that you guys can or will develop a possible romance in the game?? (Pls, I shipp Rourke and Lynn a lot) (also I'm still finishing chapter 2 ) thank you guys for this amazing game

(+14)

Hi there! We're glad to hear that you are enjoying it! Unfortunately, there won't be any romance in the game because Rourke wasn't written as someone interested in romantic relationships and stuff that will be revealed later in the game. What you can do is build platonic friendships with your teammates, learn to trust each other, cheer them up, listen to their backstories, etc.
Have a great day!

(+2)

Thanks ^-^

(+1)

Te pasaste Cami, muy talentosa, de verdad admiro mucho tu trabajo, y lo digo porque también soy desarrollador Indie en mi tiempo libre. Muy buen juego!

(1 edit)

hi there, the game looks really good from the images and trailer but i tried to play the demo for mac os and i get an error message

(1 edit)

Hi there! I'm not completely sure what might be the problem, but unfortunately the prototype demo from 2016 is no longer being updated. The current version of the game was rebuilt from scratch on a different engine, so we haven't touched the old one in years :(

I apologize for the inconvenience.

(+2)(-2)

Very great game! I especially enjoyed the story so far.

The only thing I really disliked about it is the horrible stiffness of some of the character animations.
The standing pose for the characters (especially up and down) are way too symmetrical and uninteresting to look at.
Moreover they are not versatile enough. While they do fine in scenes like meetings where characters are expected to stand straight, they look horrible in action oriented scenes and completely undermine the tension. Something a tad more dynamic and less symmetrical would work much better, I believe. The 'standing sideways' template is much better for instance.
The walking animation also suffers from the same problems. Who walks with such a straight back and a stiff head? The fact that you have to look at this animation for such a great part of the game and that every single character uses it makes things even worse.

Finally, I think that you are not using the right animations in some places.
This thing in Rourke's room is clearly a ladder and not stairs and yet for some reason you are not using your ladder climbing animation. Why??
Similarly why are you using the characters' walking animation for sprinting? The characters' speed per frame when sprinting and the walking animation clearly don't match each other.
You have a running animation already, so why aren't you using it there?
(Sure, you might need to do some recoloring to make the ladder climbing animation for Rourke's first (darker) uniform and you might need to make the 'up' and 'down' version of the running animation cause I'm not sure you have those already but still it seems pretty doable)

These flaws are especially surprising because the game's art is very good and detailled. You have some foot taping animations for npcs, surveillance camera rotating animations, water animation and reflections, very nice and clever shadow effects in the opening, some very cool character animations with your two heroes jumping over the bridge and Adair getting up after loosing consciousness in the water... And yet you use some awfully stiff and uninteresting character animation templates. Why???

I know you won't be able to change these animations even if you want to (you'd have to redo way too many sprites) so I'm just left a tad disappointed and wondering how this could happen.

(I am using that gameplay video as an easy way to illustrate my points but obviously I have actually played the game)

(+4)

Hi there! First of all, I want to thank you for your feedback, and I do agree that there will always be plenty of room for improvement.

While this is not an excuse, I do have to point out we are a 3 person team and I'm the only artist (all of the portraits, sprites, maps, animations, UI, etc, were made by me, and I'm also the co-writer, code the events of the game, and the one  in charge of social media+business), so we really have to prioritize what we do.

As an example, a walking cycle (from scratch, not a recolor) from all 4 directions can take me a full day of work, same case with other complex animations. I'd love to add small idle animations for every character and NPC, or redo a lot of things, since we've been working on it for such a long time and our skills keep improving. There are things we will improve from the already released chapters, but some of them might happen post release.

I hope this clears some doubts! Trust me, most indie developers want their game to look (or be) as good as possible.

(+1)

Very Amazing game never played a game good like this in a long time good luck in the developing!

Thank you so much! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it!
